McLaren Property consults local community on proposals for disused site in Glasgow city centre

McLaren Property, one of the UK’s leading developers of residential and student accommodation, is consulting on initial proposals to redevelop a redundant 1970s-style office block at 285 Bath Street in Glasgow to bring the site back into use.

The local community is being invited to view the details and meet the team on Tuesday 18 June at The Renfield Centre, 260 Bath Street, G2 4JP. Information will also be available on 285bathstreet.co.uk.

The plans to convert the current commercial building into dedicated student accommodation will help address Glasgow’s housing shortage by freeing up existing residential buildings to make more homes available to local residents. Construction would support the creation of approximately 300 jobs. Additionally, proposals include a ground-floor commercial space that could be used as a base for a local community group, as a café, or retail unit.

The site at 285 Bath Street is strategically located close to the campuses of Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow Caledonian University, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and Strathclyde University. The preliminary designs focus on well-being, including amenities for the students such as a gym, bike storage and a roof garden.

McLaren Property is part of the wider McLaren Group, which includes McLaren Living and McLaren Regeneration. Together, these businesses have developed over £1.5bn in projects across the UK and today have a combined pipeline of £4.8bn across 41 sites that could see the creation of a further 17,500 homes. McLaren Property specialises in the delivery of market-leading student accommodation and has developed new student communities in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, and Stirling in Glasgow.

McLaren Property’s divisional managing director, David Atherton, said: “It’s fantastic to be putting forward our initial proposals to bring this Glasgow city centre site back to life. We want to deliver best-in-class student homes to the city, which will help address the widely reported shortage of student accommodation and support both the universities and Glasgow to retain and develop young talent.”
